Vršič Pass
Vršič Pass is Slovenia’s highest mountain pass open to road traffic. The road connects Kranjska Gora on the northern side of the Julian Alps with the Trenta and Soča valleys and the town of Bovec on the southern side. It is an exceptionally scenic route that attracts large numbers of drivers, motorcyclists, and cyclists during the summer months. However, the history of the pass—and the reasons for its construction, is not so beautiful.

The main attraction of Restaurant Kamin is the spectacular view from its terrace overlooking the entire Gulf of Trieste. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Grado in Italy on the opposite side of the bay, the town of Izola below, and, in the distance, Triglav and the Julian Alps. With a bit of luck, you may even catch a glimpse of the Dolomites. The fantastic scenery makes the excellent food taste even better.

Cycling through the Radovna Valley is a beautiful nature experience, but also a somewhat demanding ride. Along the route, you pass through the surroundings of Bled, the Radovna Valley, and the three alpine valleys of Krma, Kot, and Vrata, all with fantastic views of the Julian Alps. The entire round trip is approximately 57 km. This is a popular cycling tour during the summer, especially among tourists renting bicycles in Bled.

The best restaurant visits are the ones where expectations are exceeded, and our visit to Restaurant Rajh was exactly that kind of experience. Naturally, we had high expectations after reading about the restaurant, but the food turned out to be even better than we had imagined. Located in the Prekmurje region, between Austria, Hungary, and the Mura River, the restaurant has a unique setting and character. We fell in love with the place and would happily return.

The Piran city wall is one of the best spots for fantastic views and beautiful photos of Piran, unless you have a drone, of course. Although we have visited Piran countless times, it wasn’t until early April this year that we finally explored the wall. It was a wonderful spring day during Easter, with plenty of visitors, especially Slovenians and Italians. Given Piran’s proximity to Italy, the town attracts many day visitors.

On the last Saturday in March, I cycled from Radovljica to Kranjska Gora and on to Planica. A long ride of almost 100 km there and back in brilliant sunshine. Especially on the stretch from Mojstrana to Kranjska Gora, you are rewarded with fantastic views of the Julian Alps. A large part of the route follows well-maintained cycle paths. The section between Mojstrana and Kranjska Gora is particularly well designed, as it runs along the old disused railway line between Ljubljana and Tarvisio in Italy.
