Boka Waterfall
Boka Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Slovenia. It is located in the Soča Valley, just west of the town of Bovec. The waterfall is visible directly from the road between Bovec and Kobarid, making it difficult to miss. Since it is located not far from the road, it is easy to make a quick stop and visit the waterfall while travelling between the many other attractions in the Soča Valley. We visited the waterfall in mid-May, when it was full of water.

Bohinj Lake Cycling
In mid-May, I cycled from Radovljica to Lake Bohinj. Irina and I had previously cycled together to Bohinjska Bistrica along the cycle path through the valley. This time, I chose a different route over the Pokljuka Plateau, which turned out to be a much tougher challenge. The effort was well worth it, however. The descent from the plateau to Lake Bohinj takes you through incredibly beautiful landscapes, passing several picturesque villages and offering fantastic views down into the valley where the lake is located. The climb may be demanding, but the scenery more than makes up for it.

Restaurant Kodila
Restaurant Kodila is located in the small, unassuming village of Markišavci, just outside Murska Sobota, the capital of Slovenia’s Prekmurje region. Both the location and the restaurant come as a surprise, as you would hardly expect to find a restaurant and delicatessen of this quality in such a quiet village. The restaurant specialises in meat dishes and has earned a Bib Gourmand distinction in the Michelin Guide. We visited for lunch in mid-May and were pleasantly surprised by both the food and the overall experience.

Zadnja (Upper) Trenta
Zadnja Trenta is the highest and most remote part of the Trenta Valley. In our opinion, it is also the valley’s most beautiful part, where towering peaks meet crystal-clear streams, riverbeds, rich flora and fauna in a spectacular landscape. Although more and more visitors are discovering this hidden corner of Slovenia, it still feels as though time has stood still. The traditional houses and architecture have changed little over the centuries. The valley is part of Triglav National Park and is therefore a protected area.

Izola
Izola shares many similarities with Piran, but it also has its own distinct character. Both towns have a strong Venetian heritage and a lively restaurant scene, where you can enjoy Istrian seafood while watching the sun set over the Adriatic Sea. Izola is less well known and less touristy than Piran, offering a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere. Its name comes from the Italian word for “island.” Like many other towns in Istria, Izola has a rich history shaped by a variety of cultures.

Soča River Source
The Soča River is probably Slovenia’s most remarkable river, known for its distinctive emerald-green colour and the beautiful valleys through which it flows. The source of the Soča River is located in the incredibly beautiful Zadnja Trenta Valley and marks the beginning of a 138 km long river that flows through the Trenta and Soča Valleys before emptying into the Adriatic Sea near Monfalcone in Italy. After the source, there is a series of beautiful waterfalls to admire.
